It’s been a few years since I have done anything with this project, and while the interest has dropped off, I still get occasional requests for a built version and have since I first posted the plans. The info on how to build one is on this website and Github, but for some without the skills, desire, or time, I thought I try to sell a few handbuilt kits. Make no mistake – this isn’t a production run from a factory – I will be building the kit and mounting it in an enclosure. The only thing new here is a 3D printed faceplate for the LED version. I am using an extruded aluminum enclosure that measures 120mm x 97mm x 40 mm that’s available from Amazon should others want to build this enclosure. It’s been available on Amazon since 2015, so hopefully it dosen’t dissapear in a year!
Curretnly, the back plate is a drilled and laser engraved aluminum plate – one of the two that’s included with the enclosure. My metalworking skills aren’t all that great… further enhancing the handbuilt esthetic.
Please excuse the dusty card table – my shack isn’t setup at the moment!
My plan is to put this up an eBay or Etsy – thoughts?

Is it possible to purchase a complete, assembled DG-5 clon ?

I am working a building a few – I’ll let you know when they are ready. I am also working on getting a few kits ready.

I’ve got a search saved on eBay if you post anymore. Outstanding product. 73,s KF4HHG
Will this production run be large enough for me to buy one?

I am going to build a couple more, I’ll let you know when I have one ready!

Thanks! I’ll also have to find a DK-520 somewhere, because I only have a 520, rather than a 520S. I would really like to be able to transmit/receive RTTY and other modes that require exact tuning.
I am interested in a couple kits. Carl Webster AB1ZI
I built the 1.5 version a few years back.
I see you are using the 13.8 DG5 output on the TS520 for power.
Are you using a CB connector ???
I have a TS530sp that needs new HV caps, I sent for new ones from K.4EAA.
So in the mean time I wil fire up the TS 520.
Thank you for all the work you have put in on this project.

You can use the 13.8VDC out of the back of the radio, I actuall cut up an actual DG5 jumper cable to make that power cable.
Thanks for reply Stephen.
Good luck with the sales of the kits, its good to keep these old Radios going.
Hallo
ist es möglich die DG-5 Platine auch an den TS-820 anzuschliessen und wo kann man eventuell ein Nachrüctkit für den TS-820 bekommen.
Jannes DL2BV
The TS-820S already has a digital display – not sure why you need this? I don’t think there are outputs on the TS-820S for CAR/HET/VFO, so unless you did some modifications I dont think it will work.
Steve
Great project. I have an old TS-520S. Are you selling a pre-built kit ready to plug in?
Thanks!

I don’t have any more built as I sold what I had, but I do have a kit available (I think). I can probably get one built pretty quick if you’re interested.
Steve
Yes, I am interested in a kit. If you could clarify what is provided in the kit and the cost that would be great.
Regards,
Eric
Eric –
The kit (including the PCB, all parts/sockets and LED display with jumper) is $60. A 3D printed bezel that the LED fits into this case (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010DHQPVW) is $12, including the smoked acrylic lens, you still have to mount the PCB on standoffs in the case and drill the back plate for the connections.
Fully built, mounted in the case and tested is $135
Shipping isn’t included in any of this, but is typically $6 or so for the kit, might be a few more for the prebuilt unit in the US. International is nuts right now.
Thanks Stephen. I am not retired yet so very busy and will pay the $135 plus shipping to Ohio if interested in building one 🙂 If not, then I will buy the kit. You can email me next steps. Thank you for such a wonderful product.
